Melanie Phung Bio

headshotMelanie Phung is a digital marketing strategist residing in Washington, DC, where she currently serves as a Sr. Director of Site Experience for the e-commerce company Optoro.

Melanie’s professional experience spans SEO, user experience, A/B testing, conversion optimization, content strategy and content marketing, and analytics.

She got her start in the search engine optimization industry when she was in charge of SEO for a publicly traded e-commerce company, where her main focus was the company’s flagship shopping site Wirefly.com. Wirefly is the largest online retailer of cell phones from all major U.S. cell phone carriers and one of HitWise’s Top 5 Electronics Shopping Sites on the Web. Under her direction, the company’s websites gained top 3 rankings for many of the vertical’s most competitive keyword terms, resulting in millions of dollars in incremental revenue from organic search.

In 2009 and early 2010, while working for a nonprofit marketing consultancy, Melanie advised nonprofit and governmental organizations on digital strategy and managed the overall social media strategy for the international aid organization CARE. During the humanitarian crisis following Haiti’s earthquake, CARE’s use of Twitter and Facebook was widely applauded as a great example of using social media to communicate about disaster relief.

She also worked at PBS as Director of New Media, where she was responsible for SEO and content strategy for the award-winning PBS.org site and its producing partners and affiliate stations.

Recent speaking engagements have included CONFAB 2012, Digital East 2012, Internet Summit Raleigh, and Dallas Digital Summit.
